This week sees the delivery of a large digger to the farm along with a very large trailer for moving soil. The job at hand is the expansion of the silage pit. This is where we store all the bailed and wrapped grass we take off the fields in the spring and summer. These bales are then fed to the cattle in the winter when the grass doesn’t grow as quickly and when they are housed in the barns.
The digger was a massive hit with Harriet, our 18 month old daughter and the other children visiting the cottages, who spent a long time watching it and the tractor and trailer working. The silage pit will be nearly double the size once completed. More room for the bales and better drainage.
